Guide to Taking 1:1 Scale Photographs for CAD Vectorization
If your elastomeric profile or seal has a complex shape and it is difficult to measure or draw by hand, PrimeGomaTech engineers can perform direct CAD vector scanning from a photograph. To ensure 100% dimensional accuracy, please follow the guidelines below.
Key Rules for Accurate Scanning:
- Perpendicular Camera Angle (90 Degrees): Hold your camera or smartphone strictly parallel directly above the profile cutting plane.
- Avoid Angular Perspective Distortion: If the photograph is taken at an angle, geometric perspective distortion occurs during vectorization, resulting in incorrect part dimensions.
- Rigid Scale Reference: Place the component on a clean background next to a millimeter grid, rigid metric ruler, or caliper jaws for calibration.
- High-Contrast Lighting: Ensure adequate lighting so that sealing lips, internal bores, chamfers, and profile edges are clearly defined.
- CAD Verification Step: Our engineering unit creates a 1:1 scale 2D drawing or 3D CAD model and sends it back to you for dimension verification prior to production launch.
